Obituary for Richard Stephan Mori – 1953-2026

Richard Stephan Mori
1953-2026

Richard (Rick) Stephan Mori was born on September 15,1953 to Richard Mori and Lois Grant (Petty) in Riverside Calif. He was the oldest of their 3 children.

Rick died at his home in rural Trail, Oregon on May 14, 2026.

Rick’s father married a second time, and he had 2 more sons.

Rick was preceded in death by both of his parents, Richard and Lois. He was also preceded in death by his brother Mike Mori as well as Mikes son, (Rick’s nephew)

Rick is survived by his sister Cheryl Berndt (spouse, Mike) of Concord, Calif. and his sister-in-law Roberta Mori of Sacramento Calif.

He is also survived by his 2 half-brothers Jeff Mori (spouse, Susan) of Vancouver, Wash., and brother Chris (spouse, Ally) of Concord, Calif. as well as their mother Prudence Mori of Vancouver, Wash. He has numerous nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his ex-wife (and friend) Anna McKee of Shady Cove OR.

Rick’s formative years were greatly influenced by the Italian heritage of his father’s side of the family and he and his siblings often spent time with their grandparents. In later years he became quite close with the Irish side of the family who mainly reside in eastern Oregon.

Even though Rick never had children of his own, he certainly left his mark on the world. He was a large man (when people asked how tall he was he would tell them 5’18” to get a laugh) and he lived life very large. He was always ready to learn new things, take on new projects and share his knowledge with others. Being in the construction trade for many years, he liked to speak of the need for projects to be “delivered on time and on budget” and when he was in the commercial construction project manager role , he took all measures to ensure that he did exactly that.

Rick often sought adventures that few would have the bravery to do. He had a 70-foot sailboat custom designed for his height and did a great deal of sailing in the San Francisco Bay area. As captain of his boat, he sailed it to Hawaii and back. He had a great deal of fortitude, as on the return trip, the main sail became torn in a storm, and he spent 9 days at sea hand-sewing the sail and then sailed safely back to the San Francisco Bay.

Rick’s mother was a native Oregonian and when she died in 2002, he decided he could “take her place” and he moved to Shady Cove, Ore. in 2003. He built a two-story Craftsmen style home in the Cove.

It was during his time in Shady Cove that he learned the art (and work) of beekeeping.

For the last 12 years he has lived at his home in rural Trail.

Rick recalls a quote from years past….

“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”

A special thanks to Dr. Andrew Kim of the Providence Doctors Clinic in Medford for being such an amazing doctor to Rick for 23 years.

A  Memorial Celebration of Life is being planned for September, on or near his birthday. Information will be posted on the Shady Cove/Trail Facebook page once arrangements are completed.

Rest in Peace Dear Rick
