I remember the first time my sister told me about the fritillarias around Trail where she lived. I had only seen the cultivated species, mainly Fritillaria imperialis, the Crown Imperial Fritillaria. I fact that I still remember today is the remarkable fetid odor, worse that skunk spray. Few plants have this distinction of fowl smelling flowers. The odor is to attract pollinators.
