Siskiyou Singers Celebrate “Neighbors in Harmony”

Join Siskiyou Singers and Artistic Director Mark Reppert for Vecinos en Armonía: Neighbors in Harmony, a lively spring celebration of Latin American music. Featuring special guests from The Woodburn High School Mariachi, this concert promises an afternoon of vibrant mariachi music, bold choral sound, and beloved favorites.

Performances will be at SOU’s Music Recital Hall in Ashland on Saturday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 26, at 3:00 p.m.  General admission is $25 ($5 for students and Oregon Trail Card holders). Tickets are available from choir members, at Music Coop or Paddington Station in Ashland, online at siskiyousingers.org, or at the door.  There will also be a free lecture about the music by musicologist Ed Wight one hour before both concerts.

Expect the pulse and color of Latin American traditions—music shaped by dance rhythms, storytelling, and emotional depth. Featured will be a range of songs from South America and the Caribbean: a Puerto Rican folk song full of drive and momentum; a Venezuelan dance tune with instantly engaging lift and sparkle; a festive Brazilian piece representing the sounds of Carnaval; and more—including the ’60s classic “Guantanamera.” The Mariachi will place the focus squarely on Mexico when they perform a series of their own numbers. And the choir will join forces with the Mariachi to present classics including “A Mi Manera” (“My Way”) and the beloved “Cielito Lindo.”

Experience the energy, warmth, and passion of Latin American music in a concert that brings together powerful choral singing and the vibrant sound of mariachi.
