Citizen has thoughts on City Council

We have been living in Shady Cove for 16 years and cease to be amazed at the city government. Every Mayor has been criticized after their term. This is a tough job, with no compensation, unless looking for their own self interest! Now here we go again, after listening to recent city council meetings. The city administrator, Miss Parry was fired “without cause”, that’s pretty weak.

In July of 2025 our Mayor Ball at a council meeting walked out, only to follow 1/2 hour later by Council President Kathy Nuckles, no notice from either. So a mayor was appointed by the remaining council, Richardson who had lost her last election. Then Miss Nuckles decided she wanted to be back on the council and was voted in. How can someone walk out of a position on the council only to reappear without question. This is just bizarre.

Now it’s getting murky.

I’ve been on the Upper Rogue Community Center board, I discovered I no longer wanted to be on the board so I gave them a 4 month notice.

My husband and I were asked to get involved with Aunt Caroline’s Park. We had monthly meetings along with Don & Lois Holland, Spencer and City Administrator, Aaron Prunty, one of our members moved out of town. So we started Music in the Park with Richard Andrest the DJ and about 30 citizens. They said they had fun and enjoyed the park and music. Then we started to grow and the mayor wanted to know why we did not have live bands and I told him they won’t play for little or no compensation. The funds started to increase and we were able to hire bands for the 4 summer months. We had so much support from C.A. Aaron Prunty and our wonderful Spencer. I was frequently asked how many people are attending and I said I don’t know, just that attendance is increasing and everyone seems to be having fun and enjoying our lovely park.

And yes I got someone to count, we at last count had 140. I do have lots of back stories

regarding issues, the homeless, primarily but the Sheriffs on duty made sure to make an appearance at every event. The Fire Department often stopped by and visited the citizens.

Then it was decided by the City Council in 2019 that a commission was needed for the Parks, and my husband and I stepped down. I did attend a Parks Commission meeting and gave them all my notes on the bands and vendors and none were contacted.

Now we move to present and no Music in the Park. Breaks my heart. It seems infighting is a constant on the city council. I wonder why so many good hard-working citizens no longer volunteer. I believe everyone who is able to volunteer for a just cause. I can remember the first volunteer luncheon I attended the city had 65 volunteers. This city is so dependent of volunteers.

Now, enough finger pointing and blackballing people, look up the word blackballing it fits. Excuses, constant complaining and blaming, and blaming, blaming.
