I can’t explain how it happened, but I managed to survive another 4th of July celebration. This particular holiday is a marathon for me, and it begins the night before. It started about three years ago when I asked the kids in my apartment complex what they were doing for the fourth and was told all they could afford was a box of small sparklers.
The Eagle Point City Council held their regular meeting June 23 where the focus was putting the final touches on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. This annual ritual consists of four resolutions. Most important was a resolution certifying that the city provides at least four services in order to qualify for its share of state revenues.
I’m about ready to unload a cat. He’s been with me for about 16 years and is as affectionate as can be, but he’s beginning to be a little too independent for his own good. The OSAA has realigned the sports leagues for the next four years, and Eagle Point has every reason to be unhappy. For whatever reason yet to be explained, they have created a “hybrid league” that combines 6A and 5A schools together.
The Eagle Point Planning Commission met June 16 to hear a proposal for a car wash behind Eagles Market. The plan is expansive and covers more than 20% of the land available for development that not only includes the car wash but a sound wall and access from the Old Hwy. 62 side of the property as well as parking for cars on the east side of the property next to the proposed facility.

The annual city budget committee hearing took place June 2 where the 14-member committee voted unanimously to approve a budget of $41,248,270 for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Eagle Point City Council held their regular meeting, which was dominated by a discussion on the possible prohibition of whippets (nitrous oxide canisters) in the city. The canisters are meant for whipped cream dispensers, but people have been inhaling the gas for a quick high.
The Eagle Point baseball and softball teams made the state playoffs this year with the Lady Eagles traveling to fourth-ranked Ridgeview while the baseball team traveled to fourth-ranked Summit, both on May 26. The results were a stark contrast.
It’s time for me to talk about something near and dear to my heart. It’s a passion I’ve embraced since I was four years old and that’s bicycling. May was National Bicycle Awareness Month (is as I’m writing this). As Summer approaches and school lets out, there will be more bicycles on the road than at any other time of the year.
