Shady Cove City Council held an open hearing Feb. 19. Per the announcement, “In accordance with ORS 192.660(2)(b), the council will hold an “open hearing” to consider the dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints or charges brought against, a public officer (councilor).”
Initially the meeting had been scheduled as an executive session, however Councilor Paige Winfrey requested it be held as an open hearing. The executive session was cancelled and the hearing scheduled and notice posted.

Shady Cove City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. The meeting was well attended both in person at City Hall and via Zoom. Arguably most in attendance were less interested in agenda items such as “Franchise Agreements versus Rights of Way Agreements” and were more interested in the added agenda item of: Resolution 26-01 “A resolution of the city of Shady Cove concerning the censure and exclusion of a councilor from certain executive sessions held under ORS 192.660(2)(f) and ORS 192.660(2)(h).”

During the Shady Cove Council open hearing Feb. 17, two separate comments were made about the Upper Rogue Independent which we need to address.

The Eagle Point Planning Commission held a public hearing Feb.17 regarding a request to rezone a 6.06-acre parcel of land located at 1015 Palima Dr. from Residential Farm (RF) to R-1-12 which would allow 12 single-family homes per acre. However, it must be noted that what was before the commission was a simple rezoning request, not a development proposal.

The Lady Eagles had a tough stretch of games, beginning with a 66-32 loss to visiting Springfield on Feb. 12, The Millers came into the game ranked second in the state with an undefeated league record and an overall mark of 21-2.

If early blooming flowers are any indication, spring truly is right around the corner, but before we leave winter behind altogether, let’s look at some sturdy stoneflies who are out and about even on our coldest, darkest days.

By far the most memorable – and BY FAR the hardest (that deserves all caps) – was the Half Dome hike in Yosemite.
